Adhemar (2003)

Wire, epoxy, ink and varnish

Do you know that annoying mosquito that spends its life trying to bite you? It seems to be only one mosquito, but if you kill it, another one comes on its behalf. Well, that is Adhemar. He is not a physical body, but an immortal mosquito soul who chases me. I cannot beat him since he leaves his body each time I kill a mosquito whose body he is inside. I made this sculpture to pay homage to Adhemar as a sign of respect to a powerful enemy.

Electo (2003)

Wire, epoxy, ink and varnish

Electo is this scary man who quietly points to people. While some feel uncomfortable being stared by him, others get proud as if they had been chosen.

Brick (1997)

Wood

This sculpture was actually a university task for my woodworking class. I was supposed to make a toy, but I convinced the teacher to let me create a wood brick based on an old clay brick forsaken in the corner of the atelier.

Ostrich (2003)

Soapstone

When I first stared this rough stone trying to figure out what was inside, I felt that something was hiding from me. The more I carved the more this shy creature got scared, and ended up with his head hidden under his feet.

Torso (2003)

Soapstone

This sculpture is a tribute to the ancient Greek art. The stone was not big enough to become a complete torso with arms and head, so I decided to sculpt just a torso and leave it as if it had been destroyed through the time.

Ruminus (1995)

Soapstone

Ruminus was one of my first sculptures in soapstone. I was 16 years old and mixed references from moose, horses and sheep to create a hybrid beast with a peaceful mood.

Cheng (2003)

Wood

This sculpture I made with a branch I found fallen on the street where I lived. I friend of mine said that this sculpture looked like a hand of an ancient Chinese who lived alone in a shelter on the top of a mountain. I asked him what was the name of that man, and I put his answer "Cheng" as the name of this work.

Mona (2003)

Wire, epoxy, ink and varnish

Mona is a miserable homeless woman who is starving to death and can barely hold herself up. She pleads for food, showing her sere breasts as sign of her poor state.

Helgo (1998)

Polyester resin

Helgo seems to be desperate as if he has made a terrible mistake. It looks like he cannot forgive himself since it was his own fault. He knows that he could have done otherwise.
